The brief
The problem: conservation posters are easy to ignore because they look like every other conservation poster. The subject here, Pakistan’s vultures losing their nesting trees to rising heat, needed a form that felt as uncomfortable as the fact.
The insight was to make the message out of its own subject. Rather than set the headline in a typeface, I built the word UNBEARABLE by hand from real bird wings and feathers gathered from a chicken shop, arranged over a drawn grid and shot in the sketchbook. The craft is the argument: you cannot read the word without confronting what it is made of.
That handmade title anchors the finished poster, over the White-backed Vulture and its failing nest, under a single line of action.
01The Message
Pakistan’s White-backed Vultures are running out of shade. As temperatures in Punjab and Sindh push past what the birds can survive, and the old trees they nest in disappear, the nests fail in the heat. The country is quietly losing its natural cleaners. The brief was to make that loss impossible to scroll past.
02Built From What Is Left
The headline is not a font. Every letter of UNBEARABLE was built by hand from real bird wings and feathers, collected from a chicken shop, then laid out letter by letter over a pencil grid and photographed. The medium carries the message: the word for the birds’ disappearance is made from the remains of birds. It is meant to sit wrong, and it does.
03The Poster
The handmade word becomes the headline, set over the vulture and its exposed nest, closing on a climate-action line: restore the canopy, cool the planet.
